What we do

Our principal function as Quantity Surveyors is the financial planning and management of construction expenditure. As cost managers on construction projects we work in close collaboration with Architects, Engineers and other professional consultants.

We estimate the total capital requirements of a project, obtain maximum value for money for the Client within the construction budget, monitor expenditure during construction and ensure a financially satisfactory contract finalisation.

Service Scope of service
Feasibility Studies By being able to indicate realistic budgets within which proposed schemes can be developed the information necessary to make initial assessments of the financial feasibility of a project can be provided while the project is still at outline brief stage before major commitments in time and money are entered into.
Initial Cost Estimates Initial budgets can be established to provide a global indication of the likely cost of the project and to assist in establishing a realistic overall budget within which the scheme can be developed.
Cost Planning Once initial budgets have been established, using the technique of cost planning, the available monies are spread between all the various elements of the project to ensure that expenditure is allocated in a balanced manner, that the best use is made of the monies that are to be spent and to ensure that the Client receives the maximum value for his expenditure. As the design develops a system of cost checking ensures that the designers are kept advised of the cost affect of their design decisions and are advised if corrective action is necessary in order to adhere to the established budgets.
Contract Advice Advice is given on the selection of contract documents and any special provisions required in a particular case. The most appropriate tender procedure for the project is advised and implemented.
Tender Procedures

Bills of Quantities are prepared for contracts in areas where this is the normal method of tendering.

Alternative methods are available for other areas, or for particular types of contract such as Management Contracts, Design and Construct or Turnkey projects.

The object in all cases is to provide documentation which provides tenderers with a uniform basis on which to submit their quotations and to cover all aspects of the project in a comprehensive and unambiguous manner.

If circumstances indicate negotiation of a contract with a particular contractor this can be done on appropriate documentation, drawing on our knowledge of construction costs to ensure a fair negotiated contract price.
Reporting on Tenders When tenders are received they are checked and assessed and a comprehensive report with recommendation is issued to the Client.
Tenders for Specialist Works Invitations for tender and the assessment of quotations received is also undertaken for works which are to form the basis of specialist Nominated Sub-Contractors, or for goods to be obtained from Specialist Nominated Suppliers.
Financial Management During Contract During the execution of the contract interim payments are administered, regular cash flow forecasts and interim cost reports are provided and variation accounts are assessed and negotiated with the Contractor.
Final Account At the end of the project all costs are agreed with the Main Contractor, a comprehensive statement of final account is then prepared and issued to the Client.
